KLIMAfit certification

KLIMAfit certification: We, BVS Blechtechnik, are one of the six award-winning companies in the Böblingen district that have been KLIMAfit certified since October 2024. What does that mean in detail?

KLIMAfit is a funding program of the Ministry of the Environment, Climate and Energy Baden-Württemberg. It is designed to help companies get started with climate protection management.

On September 26, 2024, the first intermediate step on the long road to becoming a climate-friendly and sustainable company was completed. After several months of preparation, we welcomed an external commission to the KLIMAfit audit at BVS Blechtechnik in Böblingen. Prior to this, there were various workshops which, together with the other selected companies, prepared us thematically for the following goals:

  • Greenhouse gas balance (GHG balance)
  • Measures Program for lower emissions
  • Supporting regional & global climate protection goals
  • Climate protection guidelines
  • Organizational structures for climate protection
  • Workshops & exchange

A climate-friendly sheet metal processing company… This is no easy task…
We are facing challenging tasks, the first steps have been taken with the creation of a greenhouse gas balance and measures based on this. The topic of sustainability and climate protection is worthwhile for each and every one of us.

The topic remains an ongoing corporate process and will only be successful in the long term if all employees play an active role. Then our ecological footprint can be reduced step by step.

Establishing a climate-friendly sheet metal processing company is a challenging task that we are tackling with great commitment. Our first steps include drawing up a comprehensive greenhouse gas balance sheet and deriving targeted measures to continuously reduce emissions. Sustainability and climate protection are important issues that are not only worthwhile in ecological terms, but also for all of us personally.

As a company, we will be obliged to disclose information about our environmental, social and corporate governance practices under the ESG reporting obligation from January 1, 2026. In turn, we will encounter this reporting again when granting loans in the future, as banks will only finance sustainable business models in the future. In concrete terms, this means that we will be confronted with our current actions in relation to our CO2 emissions when investing in machinery in the future.

These challenges require a long-term, company-wide effort: Sustainability can only be successfully implemented if all employees play an active role. Together, we can reduce our ecological footprint step by step.

It is particularly exciting to gain an insight into the numerous factors that contribute to the greenhouse gas balance: from technical devices and systems to lighting, heating, the vehicle fleet and our employees’ means of transportation, right through to packaging, waste separation, home office regulations, flexible working hours, online meetings, local suppliers and business trips.

Figures/data/facts:
The calculation of GHG emissions for BVS Blechtechnik and the breakdown into the various Scope 1, Scope 2 and Scope 3 emission sources was of central importance. What does this mean?

Scope 1: direct emissions
Scope 1 emissions include all emissions that originate from sources that are directly under the responsibility or control of a company. This includes emissions from the use of energy sources at the company site, such as natural gas, fuels and refrigerants, as well as emissions caused by the operation of boilers and furnaces. Scope 1 also includes emissions from the company’s own vehicle fleet, including cars, vans and trucks.

Scope 2 – indirect emissions from purchased energy
Scope 2 emissions are indirect greenhouse gas emissions caused by purchased energy such as electricity, district heating or cooling. This energy is generated outside the company’s system boundaries but consumed within the company.

For example, emissions resulting from the external generation process of purchased electricity are considered indirect emissions and therefore fall under Scope 2.

Scope 3 – indirect emissions within the value chain
Scope 3 emissions are all greenhouse gas emissions that are not directly generated by the company itself (as in Scope 1) and also do not originate from purchased energy (as in Scope 2). Instead, they include all other emissions along the company’s entire value chain.

These include, for example, emissions from the production and transportation of purchased materials, employees’ business trips, employees’ travel to and from work and the use and disposal of products sold.

The difference between Scope 2 and Scope 3 is therefore that Scope 2 only takes into account indirect emissions from purchased energy (e.g. electricity, heat), while Scope 3 includes all other indirect emissions along the supply chain and the product life cycle.

With the help of these categories, BVS Blechtechnik examined where we currently consume how much GHG emissions and what opportunities we have to make savings in these “scopes”.

We used the year 2022 to prepare our first greenhouse gas balance sheet, as we already had all the figures from that year at the start of the KlimaFit program and therefore did not have to wait for an evaluation of individual sub-items. Below you will find a few figures from the balance sheet for 2022 and the savings measures we have already implemented.

The unit CO₂e (CO₂ equivalents) is a measure used to compare and standardize the climate impact of different greenhouse gases. As different greenhouse gases – such as methane (CH₄) or nitrous oxide (N₂O) – contribute to the greenhouse effect to varying degrees, their effect on the climate is measured in relation to carbon dioxide (CO₂).

This means that CO₂e indicates how much CO₂ would have to be emitted to achieve the same climate impact as the gas in question. For example, methane has a much stronger effect than CO₂, which is why one tonne of methane is valued at around 28 to 36 tons of CO₂e.

GHG balance/ figures:
Greenhouse gas emissions 2022: –> 4,433 t CO₂e

CO2 savings through our PV system:
155.2 t. CO₂e
(approx. 400,000 kWh savings / year – corresponds to approx. 25-33% of BVS annual consumption)

CO2 savings through the purchase of green electricity:
474.3 t. CO₂e

CO2 savings by switching to LED lighting in all areas:
68.17 to CO₂e

Our purchased goods account for the largest share of our GHG balance. Purchased material, primarily sheet metal, accounts for 3,699 tons of CO₂e, or 83.4%. This is followed by our heating and process energy, which we need to heat all of our premises and operate the powder plant, at 344 t CO₂e. The commuter emissions total 128 t CO₂e.

We are delighted that our work has led to an initial success on this long journey.

We would also like to thank the district of Böblingen, Arqum GmbH, Energieagentur Kreis Böblingen GmbH and the city of Böblingen #klimaschutzbb for their excellent cooperation and feedback.

Review: 25 years of BVS training

Looking back: 25 years of BVS training: You can tell from children that you’re getting old – even more so from trainees…

BVS Blechtechnik has been training construction mechanics in the field of thin sheet metal for 25 years – a long and eventful time. A reason to celebrate:

The big reunion took place last Friday. All former and current BVS Blechtechnik trainees were cordially invited to celebrate 25 years of BVS training with us from 5:30 pm.

67 apprentices have started their training at BVS Blechtechnik in the past 25 years or are still in training with us. After a very warm welcome from Harald Steiner (CEO), our long-standing QM team leader and training manager Markus Secci looked back on the past with exciting and amusing stories.

Many former trainees have taken the opportunity to train as technicians or business administrators after completing their training. Others went on to study. All of them have become fit, energetic people who have found their place in life, or to put it another way: Over the years, rough diamonds have become polished diamonds, some of whom have now started families themselves and are firmly in the saddle professionally.

Markus Secci concluded his speech with the wish and hope that over the next few years, the first children of former trainees will be welcomed as trainees at BVS Blechtechnik.

This was followed by a tour of the production facilities and the opportunity to bend and rivet parts of barbecue tongs as a souvenir of this special evening. After the tour, it was time to network, together with a delicious buffet and cool drinks.

Conclusion: It was a very successful evening that all those present will remember fondly.

Children’s laughter meets sheet metal processing

Child day care – thin sheet metal processing: Everyone is currently hearing about it in the press and media, many parents are experiencing it live, there are too few care options for children. Sometimes it is due to lack of space, often there is a lack of nursery teachers…

There is often an uncomplicated solution to the space problem.

Many companies have vacant office space that they are not currently using. So the question arises: what can a medium-sized company do with unused office space?

BVS Blechtechnik has thought about this issue. The past summer months were used to convert the vacant rooms into a day care center for under-3-year-olds. Since the beginning of October, three group rooms, a bedroom, a kitchenette, a bathroom and the fenced-in garden have been available.

On October 3, 2024, the time had finally come for the first five children to discover and conquer the new rooms. The children and their caregiver are looking forward to further reinforcements, which are available to all children in Böblingen.

Who can you contact?
BVS Blechtechnik has rented the rooms to the Kunstwerk daycare center, while the TUPF association
(= Tages- und Pflegeeltern e.V. Kreis Böblingen) helps to arrange childcare places.

If you are interested, you are welcome to contact the TUPF association in Böblingen or the Kunstwerk day care center directly: Embiye Houssein Oglu, ktp-kunstwerk@gmx.de,

The premises are suitable for up to nine children and two childminders. The colleagues are looking forward to the future BVS offspring. :-)

BVS BBQ Fall Barbecue

BVS BBQ fall barbecue: In good old tradition, there was a BVS barbecue again this year, this time as a BBQ Autumn Barbecue on 02.10.2024 in front of and in Hall4. The weather was a bit mixed, but stable. The first delicious turkey steaks, pork steaks, sausages and grilled cheese were ready to be eaten right on time at 14:00. Potato, pasta, cucumber and carrot salad were also enjoyed by numerous hungry colleagues. For dessert this time there were delicious waffles with powdered sugar or apple sauce. With good food and drinks as well as nice conversations, we were able to end the working day comfortably and start the long weekend well. We are already looking forward to the next one in 2025!

BB Flugfeld Lauf 2024

BB Flugfeld Lauf 2024: A small, fine, brave group set off again this year for the Böblinger Flugfeld Lauf on 17.09.2024.
The build-up was characterized by 17 degrees Celsius, wind, light rain and the question “Will the run really take place?”.

But the warming evening sun came out punctually at 5:30 pm and the BVS team was ready for the group photo and warm-up.
Unfortunately, there were further cancellations at short notice, so this year we only had eight participants at the start.
Despite everything, we had another great BVS evening!
Shared sport, shared laughter and chatting: Always a good thing.

BVS Chenghua Besuch: Training in der Produktion, Beitragsbild

BVS Chenghua visit: 24/07 – 01/08/2024

BVS Chenghua Visit from the Far East to BVS Blechtechnik: 24 July – 1 August.
On 24.07. the time had finally come.

After a long period of planning and a lot of bureaucracy, we finally had a big reunion with our colleagues from our Chinese joint venture BVS Chenghua at BVS Blechtechnik in Böblingen for the first time since coronavirus. Before coronavirus, it was customary for a delegation of colleagues to travel to China once a year to visit each other, or for our colleagues to visit us.

It was an eventful week. Our guests were given daily intensive training in assembly and ESD assembly. In-depth discussions and strategies for the coming years were also an important part of the visit. In addition to the important professional topics, the cultural exchange was not neglected, so many Swabian cultural highlights were discovered from “feasting on the lake” to a “punt trip on the Neckar in Tübingen” to the final excursion to Waldenbuch to Ritter Sport.

The departure was a bit of an adventure as the original flight from Stuttgart to Frankfurt was cancelled. But everything went well and our guests arrived home safely. So we hope that it was an all-round successful visit for everyone.

Planet71 Apprentice Company Day 2024

Planet71 Apprentice Company Day 2024 Still a little tired, but very interested, several students meet at 09:00 in front of the entrance to BVS Blechtechnik. It’s that time again: BVS Blechtechnik invites motivated pupils to take a look behind the scenes of production at the Planet71 Company Day:

  • What does sheet metal processing mean?
  • What does an apprenticeship as a construction mechanic (m/f/d) look like?

An exciting programme awaited the pupils for the next three hours:

  • To start with, there were sandwiches and the Swabian ‘classic’ butter pretzels, plus some key facts about the BVS Group.
  • This was followed by a tour of all our production departments, with in-depth discussions with our trainees.
  • The final programme part was the training workshop, where the pupils were able to build their own metal elephant.

Conclusion: Conclusion: Planet71 – Apprentice Company Day 2024, a worthwhile investment for young people and companies, next year again with pleasure :-). #bvs #bvsblechtechnik #apprentices

Arbeitgeber Siegel der Zukunft

BVS Group – Employer of the future

We are delighted to have been awarded the Employer of the Future: digital, innovative and modern seal again this year, as we were in 2023. The German Innovation Institute for Sustainability and Digitalisation awards the BVS Group the Employer of the Future award on the basis of its successful audit process.

Despite ups and downs, the technical industry will always be in demand in the various metal and sheet metal processing sectors.

If there was no more metal processing:

  • How would various medical devices for hospitals then be manufactured?
  • Where would we store life jackets in aeroplanes?
  • How could we use monitors and keyboard boards in public places if they are not protected by a metal housing?
  • Where would we store cables and electrical equipment if switch cabinets were no longer made of metal, and in this day and age, they are central,
  • Where would we store the technical contents of laptops and PCs if laptops and PC cases were no longer manufactured?

Conclusion: Metalworking is always needed! If you are inspired, take a look at www.bvs-gruppe.de and become part of our network.

We look forward to exchanging ideas and exciting new sheet metal projects!
