Sheet metal working in Böblingen: laser cutting, folding and welding – all under one roof
For over 30 years, BVS Blechtechnik has been manufacturing sheet metal components and assemblies, including ESD assembly, at its Böblingen site. Design, cutting, forming, welding and quality assurance are closely integrated both organisationally and spatially on site. This shortens coordination processes and enables technical changes to be implemented quickly.
Vertical integration at the site
At BVS, cutting, forming and joining are carried out as part of a single production line, without any intermediate steps being outsourced:
- Blanking: Laser cutting for complex contours, small internal radii and consistent cut edges. Punching for recurring hole patterns and gills.
- Forming: Bending using automated presses and angle measurement systems to ensure consistent bend angles throughout the production run.
- Joining: TIG and MIG/MAG welding, as well as robot-assisted laser welding, for clean seams with minimal distortion.
Personal contact rather than long distances
Having our manufacturing facilities based directly at our Böblingen site significantly shortens coordination and decision-making processes. Thanks to the close geographical integration of design, work planning and manufacturing, technical details and queries can be clarified in-house without any organisational hurdles.
This offers clear advantages for customers in the region: even before drawing up a quotation, we carry out a detailed feasibility study based on your CAD data. Initial prototyping and technical coordination can also be carried out in person right here at our factory, without the need for shipping or long lead times.
Sheet metal working for a range of industrial requirements
Production at the Böblingen site meets the specific requirements of various industrial sectors:
- Mechanical engineering: The focus is on components with high mechanical strength and reliable corrosion protection through galvanising or powder coating.
- Electrical engineering and IT: We manufacture EMC-compliant enclosures in which defined contact areas for EMC and earthing concepts are precisely masked off prior to coating to ensure electrical conductivity.
- Medical technology: On request, we supply thoroughly deburred and electropolished stainless steel components for applications with stringent hygiene requirements, complete with a fully documented process chain.
Quality assurance: From initial sample inspection to mass production
Reliable quality assurance begins at both ends of the manufacturing process: the inspection strategy is defined according to drawing requirements, tolerance specifications and batch size. Initial sample inspections, random checks during production and documented final inspections form the basis of reproducible quality assurance
Even minor differences in material thickness, strength or rolling batch can influence forming results. For this reason, production is carried out on a batch-by-batch basis. Sheets from different melts are processed strictly separately to ensure consistent process stability.
For new designs, tight tolerance specifications or more complex assemblies, we generally recommend producing a prototype before the start of series production. This allows dimensions, joint locations and tool accessibility to be checked under real production conditions, thereby ruling out teething problems before series production begins.
Frequently asked questions about sheet metal working in Böblingen
Are on-site appointments possible at the Böblingen site for initial sampling or audits?
Yes, by prior arrangement, face-to-face appointments can be arranged at our Böblingen site. Customers often make use of this for technical consultations, initial sampling or to view our manufacturing processes.
Are enquiries from Böblingen given priority because that is where the office is located?
No, enquiries are processed in accordance with the same standardised procedures as for all other enquiries. However, the geographical proximity does noticeably shorten the coordination process when it comes to clarifications and sample approvals.
How quickly will I receive sample parts from the production facility in Böblingen?
Lead times depend on the complexity of the components and the availability of materials. Thanks to our flexible manufacturing structures, simple components and prototypes can often be produced within 24 hours of all technical data being finalised. For more complex assemblies, we agree on individual deadlines.
What sheet thicknesses are processed at the site?
The focus is on thin sheet metal up to approximately 3.0 mm. The materials processed include stainless steel, aluminium, unalloyed and galvanised steels, as well as copper and brass.
Which CAD files are required for an enquiry?
To assess your enquiry, we can process standard CAD formats such as STEP, DXF and DWG. STEP files are particularly well suited to three-dimensional components, as they allow for a comprehensive assessment of geometry and manufacturability. Two-dimensional contours can, for example, be submitted as DXF or DWG files.
Does BVS also manufacture prototypes and small batches?
Yes. At its Böblingen site, BVS manufactures prototypes and individual parts as well as small-batch and mass-produced components. Prototype production can be particularly useful for new or structurally complex components, as it allows dimensions, forming processes and joints to be tested under real production conditions before mass production begins.
What surface treatments are available?
Depending on the component and the requirements, various surface treatments can be applied. These include, for example, powder coating, galvanising, pickling, blasting and electropolishing. The choice of suitable surface treatment depends, amongst other things, on the requirements for corrosion protection, cleaning, electrical conductivity and appearance.
Can welded assemblies be supplied fully assembled?
Yes. BVS not only manufactures individual sheet metal parts and welded assemblies, but can also carry out the subsequent assembly on request. Mechanical, electromechanical and electronic components can be integrated into the assembly for this purpose. For sensitive electronic components, an ESD-compliant assembly environment is also available at the Böblingen site.
